Harley-Davidson posted Q3 2026 revenue of $964 million, missing expectations, because management chose to ship fewer motorcycles to dealers than customers are buying.
HDMC shipped 33,616 motorcycles in the quarter, specifically to shrink dealer lots, and global dealer inventory fell 26% from a year ago, leaving North American dealers with a much fresher mix than the aged stock that has weighed on the brand in recent periods.
Actual consumer demand moved in the opposite direction from wholesale volumes. Global retail sales of new motorcycles rose 5% compared with Q3 2025, the fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year gains, while HDMC gross margin widened to 28.1%.

Management has now raised full-year 2026 guidance for the second time this year, with updated targets calling for HDMC wholesale shipments and retail sales of 135,500 to 139,000 units.
CEO Artie Starrs pointed to the Super Glide and Deadwood models as evidence of deepening rider engagement, and described North America as an entrenched foothold, with the Back to the Bricks dealer strategy only one full quarter into execution. Restructuring charges of roughly $13.87 million, primarily employee termination benefits and asset impairments, are embedded in the GAAP figures and are a one-time drag on reported EPS.
The headline miss obscures a company deliberately trading near-term reported revenue for a cleaner, more profitable dealer network. Whether that trade-off accelerates margin recovery into year-end is what investors should track.
