Independent Bank posted adjusted earnings of $0.92 per diluted share in Q3 2026, beating expectations on both earnings and revenue, and the quarter marks the thirteenth consecutive period of net interest income growth.

The driving force behind both beats was the July 1, 2026 acquisition of HCB Financial Corp., parent of Highpoint Community Bank. The first full quarter of Highpoint's contributions pushed net interest income 21.8% above the year-ago level, with margin expansion aided by purchase accounting accretion from the acquired portfolio.

CEO William B. Kessel highlighted organic momentum alongside the acquisition lift, noting annualized linked-quarter commercial loan growth of 20.9% excluding Highpoint, while GAAP earnings of $0.80 per diluted share trailed the adjusted figure on after-tax merger-related expenses tied to the HCB deal.

Credit quality is the area to watch. Non-performing loans climbed to 0.80% of total loans from 0.48% a year earlier, and the provision for credit losses rose from the prior-year quarter. Four commercial relationships moved to non-accrual status, cutting allowance coverage.

The next near-term milestone is the November 9 system conversion for Highpoint Community Bank, which management has flagged as a key integration step. A smooth transition removes one of the more tangible execution risks still hanging over the combined franchise, while disruption would weigh on the organic growth momentum running ahead of management's original targets for the year.
