Investar Holding reported adjusted diluted EPS of $0.77 for Q3 2026, beating expectations, while revenue came in below expectations. That shortfall was overshadowed by a sharp improvement in the bank's core profitability engine.
The standout figure is net interest margin of 3.73%, which expanded 57 basis points year over year. That improvement traces directly to the January 2026 acquisition of Wichita Falls Bancshares, which added loans and deposits to Investar's balance sheet and fundamentally changed the company's earnings profile.
Management is reshaping the loan mix, letting the lower-yielding consumer mortgage loans acquired from Wichita Falls run off while replacing them with higher-yielding commercial and industrial loans. On October 1, 2026, the company purchased $65 million in commercial and industrial variable-rate revolving lines of credit as a direct step in that remix, with commercial bankers hired across Texas and Louisiana expected to fuel continued organic growth.
Over the prior eight quarters, Investar beat estimates in seven of them, with the lone miss coming in Q2 2026 when reported EPS missed expectations. The Q3 2026 result of $0.77 marks a rebound and returns the company to its more typical pattern of modest but consistent outperformance.
Capital return was also part of the quarter's story. CEO John D'Angelo noted that the company repurchased 25,113 shares during Q3, with additional shares still authorized for future buybacks, and a quarterly cash dividend was declared.
Investors will want to monitor the pace of commercial loan growth and whether net interest margin can hold at current levels as the portfolio remix continues. Nonperforming loans ticked up to 0.70% of total loans from 0.63% in Q2 2026, a detail worth tracking given the scale of the acquired book.
