J.B. Hunt Transport Services beat Wall Street on both revenue and earnings in the third quarter of 2026, with revenue of $3.68 billion. That figure represented 20.4% growth year over year, the kind of top-line acceleration that would normally lift a stock.

Operating income rose only about 2% to $247 million, as higher purchased transportation costs, elevated insurance and medical claims, and increased driver personnel expenses absorbed most of the gains. Investors sold the stock on the filing, pricing in compressing margins alongside fast growth.

The clearest bright spot was the Intermodal segment, which generated $1.83 billion in revenue on an 8% increase in loads, with Eastern network volumes particularly strong as shippers continued shifting freight from over-the-road trucking to rail. Integrated Capacity Solutions and Truckload also posted strong revenue growth, while Final Mile Services was the one segment to shrink.

J.B. Hunt also repurchased roughly 704,000 shares for approximately $174 million during the quarter, a signal that management views the stock as attractively valued even as the market punishes the margin miss. The question now is whether volume momentum converts into operating leverage.
