A $14.9 million realized loss on the American Soccer Company restructuring pushed non-accruals to 3.6% of debt investments at fair value, even as net investment income covered the $0.40 quarterly dividend with room to spare. Management says those issues get resolved soon, which is the whole thesis for a stock trading near $12.60.

Kayne Anderson BDC reported net investment income of $0.46 per share for the third quarter of 2026, beating the consensus estimate of $0.39. Total investment income of $58.96 million also cleared expectations and climbed 27.2% from a year earlier, driven by prepayment fees, accelerated amortization from portfolio realizations, and higher average private credit balances.

A $14.9 million realized loss tied to the restructuring of American Soccer Company, combined with $8.5 million of net unrealized losses, dragged GAAP earnings down to $0.10 per share and pushed NAV per share to $15.71, down from $16.00 in the prior quarter. Non-accruals rose to 3.6% of debt investments at fair value, up from 2.7% in Q2.

CEO Doug Goodwillie acknowledged the pressure but framed it as temporary. He said the company expects to resolve the credit issues behind the elevated non-accruals in the near future, which management believes will support NAV stability and return non-accrual metrics to historical levels. The portfolio's 587 basis point average spread over SOFR and a 95.1% floating-rate composition were cited as reasons for confidence in sustaining the $0.40 quarterly base dividend, which net investment income covered with room to spare.

On the capital side, Kayne Anderson had over $500 million of liquidity as of the quarter's end and continued buying back stock under its $100 million repurchase plan. The company repurchased 265,761 shares for $3.6 million during Q3 and an additional 146,242 shares at an average price of $12.60 for $1.8 million between October 1 and October 29, leaving $92.8 million remaining under the program as of October 29. The fourth quarter 2026 base dividend of $0.40 per share was declared on November 4, with payment scheduled for January 19, 2027.
