The FTSE 100 ended the session essentially unchanged, slipping just 0.35 points to close at 14,407, a move so small it barely registers as a decline.
The DAX fell 1.13% over the same session, and the CAC 40 dropped 0.89%. That puts London sharply out of step with its two largest continental neighbours, both of which spent most of the day in negative territory while the FTSE held above its prior close.

The FTSE spent the bulk of the session in positive territory before fading in the final stretch to finish flat, while the DAX was in the red from the opening minute and never recovered.
For investors with cross-European exposure, the day's session clarified where the pressure was concentrated. The near 1.1-percentage-point gap between the FTSE and the DAX at the close represents a meaningful intraday divergence between two of Europe's most-watched benchmarks.
