Mizuho Financial Group reported Q1 2027 earnings per share of $1.06 against a Wall Street estimate of $0.17, a beat of more than 525%. The card facts attribute the surge to Japan's rising interest rate environment, which boosted both trading income and loan margins — two of the most rate-sensitive lines on a major bank's income statement.
The result marks a sharp departure from Mizuho's recent earnings history. Over the prior eight quarters, reported EPS ranged from $0.03 to $0.21, meaning the Q1 2027 print of $1.06 is roughly five times larger than any quarter in that stretch. Management responded to the outperformance by raising full-year profit guidance by 7.6%.

One figure worth watching is the revenue comparison: reported revenue came in at approximately $15.4 billion against an estimate of roughly $865.7 billion, a gap so wide it likely reflects a reporting or currency-conversion mismatch between the filing and consensus models rather than an operational shortfall. Investors focused on the bottom line will find the EPS beat and the guidance raise the more meaningful data points from this release.
