Demand at MSC Industrial is turning faster than the guidance implied: adjusted diluted EPS of $1.45 for fiscal fourth quarter 2026 beat expectations, with record net sales and adjusted operating margin above the high end of the company's own guided range. Core customer growth ran at roughly 10%, the strongest pace in more than three years, helped by accelerating National Accounts activity.
The GAAP picture looked considerably softer, with diluted EPS of $0.85 reflecting $41.77 million in asset impairment and related charges recorded during the quarter. Investors focused on the adjusted figures, however, because the impairment items obscure what is otherwise a clear improvement in the underlying MRO demand environment that MSC serves.
CEO Martina McIsaac called the quarter a strong finish to fiscal 2026 and pointed to the core customer growth rate as evidence that strategic changes to drive profitable growth are taking hold. She also flagged that first-quarter fiscal 2027 sales trends are already running at low double-digit growth, which is a notably more confident forward signal than a typical guidance range alone would provide.

For fiscal Q1 2027, management guided average daily sales growth of 9.5% to 10.5% year-over-year, with adjusted operating margins of 9.5% to 10.1%. McIsaac acknowledged inflationary headwinds and tougher year-over-year comparisons as factors to watch, but the combination of in-quarter momentum and early first-quarter trends suggests the industrial MRO recovery that began building through fiscal 2026 has not stalled entering the new year.
The company has beaten or matched EPS estimates in seven of the past eight quarters, and the Q3 2026 result already pointed to reaccelerating demand before this latest quarter confirmed it. That consistency frames the Q4 2026 result as a continuation of the trend.
