MSCI posted adjusted earnings per share of $5.11 for the third quarter of 2026, beating expectations, with revenue also topping estimates. It marks the eighth straight quarter of EPS beats.
Asset-based fees surged 24.9% on record ETF assets linked to MSCI indexes reaching $2.90 trillion at quarter end. That fee stream is tied directly to the level of assets sitting in those funds, so continued inflows translate into revenue even without new client wins.
The Index segment, MSCI's largest, grew revenue 18.1% and delivered its best-ever Q3 recurring net-new sales. Recurring subscription revenues companywide rose 7.7% and client retention improved to 95.0%, signals of durable demand for the company's benchmarks and data.
In the Sustainability and Climate segment, net new recurring subscription sales turned negative at minus $1.1 million and the retention rate slipped to 91.0% from 93.6%. Interest expense climbed 39.6%, reflecting the company's debt load.
Management largely reiterated full-year 2026 guidance while nudging interest expense estimates higher and narrowing the effective tax rate range. The company declared a fourth-quarter cash dividend of $2.05 per share and entered Q4 with roughly $0.9 billion left on its buyback authorization.
