Resolving a borrower bankruptcy settled past-due interest and pushed net interest margin to 4.01%, the lift behind record net income this quarter. The Presence Bank deal added scale, and $7.1 million of exposure to that borrower remains on the books.

Norwood Financial delivered its second consecutive quarter of record net income in Q3 2026, with earnings per share of $1.08 exceeding expectations. Revenue also cleared the consensus estimate. The results were driven by two distinct forces that happened to land in the same quarter.
The larger structural driver was the Presence Bank acquisition, completed in January 2026, which scaled up the balance sheet and pushed net interest income sharply higher year over year. Total assets grew 22.37% from a year ago, and the efficiency ratio tightened, meaning the bank is generating more revenue for each dollar it spends.
The more unusual lift came from a borrower bankruptcy resolution. A troubled loan was purchased by a new entity during the quarter, which settled all past-due interest in one shot and helped drive net income to $11.76 million, a 41% year-over-year increase. CEO Jim Donnelly described the outcome as favorable and noted that the bank navigated the situation while continuing to grow income.

The credit situation is not entirely closed. A remaining $7.1 million of exposure to that borrower is still on the books, and nonperforming loans as a share of total loans rose to 0.73% from 0.36% a year ago. Investors will be watching whether that residual exposure generates further noise or quietly works itself off the balance sheet in coming quarters.
Looking further out, management is targeting annual asset growth above 6% and has set a long-term goal of crossing $5 billion in total assets. The strategy leans on geographic-adjacent acquisitions and AI implementation across commercial banking operations. The company also adopted a share repurchase program in August 2026, adding another lever for returning capital alongside its 34-year streak of rising dividends.
