Net earnings attributable to stockholders more than doubled to $1.32 billion for Q3 2026, as higher steel prices and record mill shipments drove the bulk of that expansion. Net sales cleared the consensus estimate.

The steel mills segment was the primary engine of the quarter, with average external selling prices climbing to $1,233 per ton sequentially and shipments rising year-over-year. That volume growth marked a third consecutive quarter of record year-to-date steel mill shipments for Nucor. The absence of one-time raw material procurement refunds that had lifted Q2 results helps explain GAAP earnings per diluted share missing expectations.

CEO Leon Topalian highlighted several operational milestones alongside the financial results, including the first heat at Nucor's new West Virginia sheet mill in September and the start-up of a second galvanizing line at Nucor Steel Berkeley. The company also generated approximately $2.7 billion in free cash flow and returned capital to shareholders through share repurchases during the first nine months of the year.

Management guided Q4 2026 consolidated earnings to be generally in line with or modestly higher than Q3, with higher realized steel prices offsetting seasonally softer volumes in the steel mills and steel products segments. Import market share rose to roughly 17% in Q3 2026 despite existing Section 232 tariffs.
