Oceaneering International Q3 2026: What the EPS Miss Is Hiding
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 21, 2026.
The EPS shortfall traces to refinancing: a $19.03 million pre-tax loss on debt extinguishment tied to the new notes. Underneath it, free cash flow jumped 84%, and management initiated 2027 EBITDA guidance.

The third-quarter earnings per share of $0.50 missed the consensus estimate almost entirely because of a one-time pre-tax loss on debt extinguishment tied to the company's refinancing. Strip that charge away and the underlying business beat revenue expectations and grew year over year.
Subsea Robotics carried the quarter, with segment operating income climbing 16% on increased activity in Europe, Guyana, and West Africa alongside better survey margins.
Free cash flow of $141.92 million rose 84% year over year on stronger operating cash generation, lower tax payments, and reduced capital spending. That cash conversion gave the company room to repurchase shares during the quarter.

The refinancing that caused the one-time charge also extended Oceaneering's debt runway, with $500 million in Senior Notes due 2034 and an amended revolving credit facility running to July 2031. Cash and equivalents ended the quarter higher year over year while total liabilities fell.
Management initiated full-year 2027 EBITDA guidance of $430 million to $480 million, with free cash flow expected to exceed 2026 levels. Manufactured Products is the soft spot, with backlog down from a year earlier and lower ROV utilization expected in Q4 as rigs transit between regions.
