OFG Bancorp reported GAAP diluted EPS of $1.33 for Q3 2026, exceeding expectations and extending a track record that now shows seven beats in the past eight quarters.

The engine behind the outperformance was a sharply lower provision for credit losses, which fell to $18.14 million. Non-interest expense also contracted meaningfully, in part because the prior quarter had absorbed operational charges that did not recur. Together those line items gave earnings room to run even as the top line came in short.

Core revenues of $185.75 million came in short of expectations. Net interest income slipped sequentially because the previous quarter had benefited from one-time commercial loan payoffs. The revenue shortfall was real but narrow, and it did not change the earnings story given how much ground the bank recovered on the cost side.

CEO José Rafael Fernández pointed to commercial loan growth, stable credit quality, and disciplined expense management as the foundations of the result. Commercial Puerto Rico loans grew to $2.93 billion from a year ago, while new loan production expanded. The bank also repurchased common shares and paid a cash dividend during the period.

The net charge-off rate declined to 0.70% from a year earlier, and the net interest margin held firm. Investors will want to monitor whether the seasonal uptick in early delinquency rates and a sequential deposit decline develop into a more persistent headwind, or remain the kind of manageable noise the bank has absorbed comfortably in recent quarters.
