Old Dominion reported Q2 2026 earnings per share of $1.68, clearing the consensus estimate of $1.53 by nearly 10%. Revenue came in at $1.554 billion, also edging past expectations. The results mark the strongest beat in at least two years for ODFL, standing out against a more modest pattern of single-digit beats and one miss — in Q2 2025, when reported EPS of $1.27 fell just short of the $1.29 estimate.
The headline story is pricing power. LTL revenue per hundredweight surged 15.2%, which was enough to more than offset a 4.1% decline in freight volumes — a meaningful dynamic for investors trying to gauge whether the trucking sector is recovering on tonnage or on rate. Old Dominion's operating ratio came in at 70.1%, a metric the LTL industry watches closely as a measure of cost efficiency; a lower number signals that a smaller share of revenue is being consumed by operating expenses.

The sequential trajectory of EPS leading into this quarter adds context: results had hovered in a narrow range between $1.09 and $1.28 over the prior five quarters before jumping to $1.68 in Q2 2026. Whether that pricing-driven surge can be sustained as volumes remain under pressure is the key question heading into the back half of the year.
