Three mergers in one year are showing up where it counts: net interest margin widened to 3.73% from 3.24% a year ago, with adjusted earnings beating expectations while revenue missed expectations. The board answered with a 6.7% dividend increase to $0.64 a share, its 23rd straight annual raise.

Prosperity Bancshares posted adjusted earnings of $1.67 per share for Q3 2026, beating expectations, with revenue roughly in line with estimates. The bank is earning more per dollar of assets without needing a revenue surprise.

Margin expansion drove the beat: net interest margin widened to 3.73% on a tax-equivalent basis, reflecting merger-related asset repricing and lower borrowing costs. Net interest income rose sharply on the three acquisitions completed in 2026: American Bank, Southwest Bancshares and Texas Partners Bank, and Stellar Bancorp.

The Stellar deal alone added $10.4 billion in total assets, reshaping the balance sheet. GAAP results absorbed merger-related expenses and an out-of-state tax settlement, so reported and adjusted earnings differ meaningfully. Integration work continues at Texas Partners Bank and Stellar Bank.

The board signaled confidence in the trajectory by raising the quarterly dividend 6.7% to $0.64 per share, the 23rd consecutive annual increase. CEO David Zalman noted a compound annual growth rate in dividends declared of 10.4% from 2003 to 2026, a streak that spans more than two decades of uninterrupted raises. The dividend is payable January 4, 2027, to shareholders of record December 15, 2026.

Reported earnings have beaten estimates in every quarter over the past two years. The question is whether margin expansion in the merged balance sheet has further room to run, or whether integration costs and a rising charge-off trend begin to weigh on results.
