A pre-revenue battery developer just booked $9.8 million in customer billings, including first-ever payments from Honda and its defense and aerospace vertical. Lower R&D spending narrowed the loss past consensus, and full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance stayed intact. A next-generation technology update lands November 11 in Kyoto.

QuantumScape posted a GAAP diluted loss of $0.14 per share for Q3 2026, beating expectations, with the improvement coming primarily from a pullback in operating expenses as R&D spending fell year over year.

The headline commercial development is $9.8 million in customer billings, a non-GAAP metric the company uses to track progress before it generates conventional revenue. Two firsts were embedded in that figure: billings from Honda under an automotive agreement, and the first billings from QuantumScape's defense and aerospace vertical, a segment the company says addresses a total addressable market it estimates at up to $75 billion by 2030.

Management left full-year 2026 guidance unchanged and reiterated a 2028 start-of-production target for a planned 100-MWh commercial-scale line being developed with the Muehlbauer Group, the first time QuantumScape has had a concrete partner and timeline attached to mass production.

The next near-term catalyst is a next-generation technology platform update scheduled for November 11 at the company's Solid-State Battery Symposium in Kyoto. That event will clarify where the core cell technology stands relative to the commercial timeline investors have been waiting years to see tested.
