Reinsurance Group of America posted adjusted earnings per share of $8.49 for the third quarter of 2026, well ahead of the consensus estimate of $6.95 and representing a beat of more than 22%. Revenue of $7.55 billion topped expectations by 13.2% and grew 21.2% from a year earlier, making it one of the company's strongest quarterly showings in recent memory.

The single biggest driver was a surge in pension risk transfer activity. U.S. and Latin America Financial Solutions net premiums reached $1.01 billion in the quarter, up from just $227 million in the same period a year ago, with roughly $800 million of that figure coming from single-premium pension risk transfer transactions. That one segment effectively reshaped the consolidated top line on its own.

Investment performance added meaningfully to the result. Variable investment income came in at $55 million, compared to nothing a year ago, and the average portfolio yield climbed to 5.26% from 4.73% in the prior-year quarter. Consolidated pre-tax adjusted operating income nearly doubled, rising to $736 million from $385 million, and the annual actuarial assumption review produced no net impact on consolidated results, leaving the quarter free of the notable items that weighed on the year-ago period.

CEO Tony Cheng described the quarter as delivering excellent results with strong performance across all regions, citing favorable claims experience and robust investment performance. He also noted that claims experience was favorable to expectations in the U.S., Canada, and EMEA Traditional segments, with Canada Traditional's loss ratio improving to 85.8% from 91.7% a year earlier.

Looking ahead, management said the pipeline for both in-force and flow business remains healthy and supports confidence in continued strong financial results through the remainder of 2026 and beyond. The expected effective tax rate range is 22% to 23%. Asia Pacific Financial Solutions also showed notable growth, with assumed life reinsurance in force rising to $41.9 billion from $24.9 billion a year earlier, signaling that momentum is not confined to the U.S. market.
