RenaissanceRe posted operating earnings of $12.71 per diluted share in Q3 2026, exceeding expectations while the underlying underwriting business held firm.

Mark-to-market losses of $879.8 million on fixed maturity holdings, driven by rising market yields, overwhelmed those operating gains and produced a net loss attributable to common shareholders. Book value per common share still rose to $259.61, because the operating engine kept running.

Catastrophe events, including the Middle East War, the Ras Laffan LNG explosion, and the Colombian Earthquake, added 9.3 percentage points to the consolidated combined ratio.

Management leaned into capital return instead of pulling back: CEO Kevin O'Donnell noted the company repurchased $310.1 million of shares during the quarter, with revenue missing expectations on lower premium volume.

Net investment income of $440.9 million sits on a portfolio repositioned at higher yields, which compounds into 2027. That is the case investors weigh against ongoing mark-to-market volatility.
