SOXL sets an all-time leveraged ETF trading volume record at $1.5T in 2026
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on September 29, 2026.
Traders are now routing chip bets through a triple-leveraged fund at $1.5 trillion a year, with a quarter still to go, a sign of how much leverage is driving the semiconductor move.
$SOXL has traded $1.5T worth of shares in 2026 so far which an annual record for trading volume for a leveraged ETF (and it's still September) passing the high water mark set by $TQQQ last year. Crazy also that ten years ago it's total ann volume was $3b, now it does more than https://t.co/E9OL7W0LeC

The Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X ETF has already logged $1.5 trillion in share trading volume in 2026, with an entire quarter still remaining on the calendar. That surpasses the previous annual high water mark set by the triple-leveraged Nasdaq fund, making this the biggest trading year ever recorded for any leveraged ETF.
Ten years ago, the fund's total annual volume stood at $3 billion, a jump that shows how dramatically appetite for amplified semiconductor exposure has grown among active traders.
Triple-leveraged funds like this one reset daily, so heavy volume reflects short-horizon, high-conviction positioning. The size of the flows suggests traders are using the fund as the primary vehicle for directional bets on chips, compressing individual stock trades into a single leveraged instrument.
Eric Balchunas, a senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg, flagged the milestone on September 29, 2026, noting the record had been broken with three months still to spare. The final annual tally will push further into uncharted territory before the year closes.
