SOXX Is Clinging to Its 200-Day Average After a Steep Drop

As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 23, 2026.

The semis trade has not closed below its 200-day average since early 2025, so today's defense of that line decides whether this is a dip or the start of something deeper.

The chart of the day: The semis ETF $SOXX is sitting just above its 200-DMA after yesterday's steep drop, a level it hasn't been below since early 2025. Will it hold or give way? https://t.co/iULjfpIqWH

The iShares Semiconductor ETF has not closed below its 200-day moving average since early 2025, making the level it is now testing one of the most closely watched technical lines in the sector.

Yesterday's steep drop brought the ETF to just above that threshold, and whether it holds through today's session sets the tone for the sector.

A close below the 200-day average would mark the first such breach in roughly a year and a half, a signal that tends to shift the posture of systematic and trend-following funds, which adds weight to what happens at the close.

Bespoke flagged the setup on X this morning, noting the ETF is sitting just above the line.
