Stifel Financial Q3 2026: A Six-Quarter Winning Streak Snapped by the Trading Desk

Stifel's six-quarter run of beats is over: adjusted earnings per share of $1.46 came in missing expectations, with net revenues also missing expectations for the third quarter of 2026.
The damage was concentrated in the Institutional Group, where net revenues dropped 14% year over year. Wider credit spreads weighed on fixed income and equity transactional activity, compounded by the restructuring of Stifel's European Equities business.
Global Wealth Management generated record net revenues of $980.3 million, up 8% year over year, on higher asset values and net new asset inflows. That growth was not large enough to offset the institutional shortfall.
CEO Ronald Kruszewski pointed past the quarterly miss to year-to-date revenue of $4.3 billion, calling Q3 2026 the firm's highest-ever third-quarter EPS and saying Stifel remains on track for another record full year.
Stifel kept returning capital, repurchasing 1.6 million shares and paying a quarterly common dividend, with room left under its repurchase authorization. The non-GAAP compensation ratio improved to 56.6%, showing management tightening expenses even as revenues soften.
