Technology is carrying this market: the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.94%, more than double the S&P 500's advance.

Both indexes opened in the red before buyers stepped in around midday, and the S&P 500 closed near its session highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished up 0.66%, lagging the Nasdaq by a wide margin and pointing to conviction from growth-oriented investors.

With the S&P 500 pressing record levels, any disappointment from major tech names in the next earnings wave carries outsized risk. The momentum is intact, and so is the concentration.
