The Dow is down 307 points while the Nasdaq holds green, so anything outside tech is doing the bleeding. Own cyclicals or industrials and your afternoon looks nothing like the quiet index reading.

The headline index number is hiding a much messier afternoon. The S&P 500 is down about 0.2%, sitting at 7,708, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average has shed roughly 0.57% — translating to a 307-point drop — while the Nasdaq Composite is actually up 0.29%. That divergence tells you the selling is concentrated outside of technology, not spread evenly across the market.

Investors holding cyclicals or industrials are feeling the day very differently from those in large-cap tech. When the Dow lags the S&P by that margin and the Nasdaq is moving in the opposite direction entirely, it typically signals rotation pressure on the more economically sensitive corners of the market. The S&P's prior close was 7,723, so the index has given back about 15 points from yesterday's finish.

The midday snapshot is worth watching into the close. Moves this uneven between the three major indexes can either resolve as tech strength pulls the broader market back up, or widen if sellers rotate further into cyclicals and industrials through the afternoon session.
