The S&P 500 kicked off Monday's session at 7,692.08, putting the index back into record territory right at the opening bell and continuing a pattern it has been testing after a stretch of softer sessions in the prior two weeks.
The index worked its way down from late August through a trough near 7,552 before recovering over the final two sessions of last week. Monday's open represents the highest level in that entire window, so the bounce off the recent low has retraced a meaningful portion of the pullback.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite both opened roughly flat, meaning the early strength in the S&P 500 is not a broad, index-wide surge. That kind of divergence often signals that a handful of large-cap names are doing the heavy lifting.
Whether smaller and mid-cap names start participating decides how durable this advance is, since a move concentrated in the largest stocks can stall or reverse quickly if those leaders pause. Breadth across the NYSE and Nasdaq will be the figure to track as the morning progresses.
