Thermo Fisher Scientific posted adjusted earnings per share of $6.68 for the third quarter of 2026, clearing the consensus estimate and beating revenue expectations, with organic growth and acquisitions both adding to the top line.

Adjusted operating margin widened 120 basis points year over year to 24.5%, meaning Thermo Fisher is converting a growing share of each revenue dollar into profit even as it scales. Free cash flow rose from a year earlier, giving the company substantial financial flexibility.

All four business segments contributed to the quarter, with Laboratory Products and Biopharma Services the largest at $6.86 billion in revenue and Life Sciences Solutions, Analytical Instruments and Specialty Diagnostics each adding more. The company also completed the divestiture of its microbiology business during the quarter, sharpening its portfolio focus.

Thermo Fisher has now beaten analyst EPS estimates in each of the last nine reported quarters, a streak that stretches back to Q3 2024. That consistent pattern of outperformance, combined with a 120-basis-point margin expansion this quarter, gives investors a tangible reason to watch how the stock responds to updated full-year guidance. CEO Marc Casper stated the company's PPI Business System is enabling outstanding execution across the business.

The key open question heading into the rest of the year is full-year guidance. Management stated it would provide updated 2026 financial targets during the October 21 earnings call, and Casper expressed confidence in delivering an excellent 2026. Whether the company raises or holds those targets sets the near-term tone for the stock.
