TJX's quarter beat expectations, but the mix matters more than the headline: adjusted EPS of $1.22 came in ahead of the $1.19 consensus estimate.

Marmaxx, the largest segment, posted comparable-store growth of just 1%, while HomeGoods, TJX Canada, and TJX International each ran at 6% to 7% comps. The home and international arms are carrying the portfolio right now.

The adjusted pretax profit margin expanded 0.5 percentage points to 11.9% on higher merchandise margin and strong availability of branded goods.

Management raised its full-year adjusted EPS outlook to $5.15 to $5.20, and CEO Ernie Herrman said Marmaxx is already improving to start the third quarter. That recovery is the variable to track into the holiday season.

TJX also plans to accelerate store opening growth to 4% annually beginning in fiscal 2028 and lifted its long-term target by 500 locations to 7,500 stores.
