The revenue drop traces to the insurance unit divestiture, while the bank itself expanded net interest margin 45 basis points year-over-year to 3.65%. Management backed it up with a Q4 dividend 13.8% above what it paid a year earlier, on top of a modest beat on both lines.

Tompkins Financial delivered Q3 2026 diluted earnings per share of $2.00, beating expectations, with revenue also above estimates. The 26.1% year-over-year revenue decline is a bookkeeping artifact of the divestiture of Tompkins Insurance Agencies in late 2025.
Net interest margin expanded 45 basis points year-over-year to 3.65% on better asset yields and declining deposit funding costs. The banking operation Tompkins kept after shedding the insurance unit is carrying the bulk of total revenue.
Average loans grew 6.9% year-over-year, led by commercial real estate and commercial and industrial portfolios, with deposits, net income and shareholders' equity all higher than the prior-year period.
Management underscored its confidence in the outlook by declaring a Q4 2026 quarterly cash dividend of $0.74 per share, representing a 13.8% increase compared to the dividend paid in Q4 2025. CEO Stephen Romaine cited consistent loan and deposit growth alongside further net interest margin expansion as the drivers of momentum heading into the fourth quarter.
Special Mention and Substandard loans increased to $151.1 million sequentially, including downgrades of two commercial real estate relationships. The company also carried an accumulated other comprehensive loss tied to its securities portfolio, a figure worth monitoring as interest rates move.
