The Mississippi regional bank beat earnings by less than 1% while missing revenue by 1.5%, but what matters is the 47% plunge in nonperforming assets to just 0.39% of loans after dumping a $73.8 million portfolio of delinquent mortgages, and net interest margin expanded 3 basis points to 3.84% as deposit costs kept falling.

Trustmark posted Q2 2026 earnings of $0.97 per share, edging past the $0.96 consensus estimate by less than 1%, while revenue of $208.2 million came in about 1.5% short of the $211.5 million Wall Street had penciled in. The headline numbers were close to expectations on both sides, but the more telling story is what happened to the balance sheet beneath them.

The Mississippi regional bank shed a $73.8 million portfolio of delinquent mortgages during the quarter, and the effect was dramatic: nonperforming assets plunged 47%, leaving them at just 0.39% of total loans. That kind of cleanup removes a long-running drag on credit quality and signals that management is actively de-risking the book rather than waiting for troubled loans to resolve on their own timeline.

On the margin side, net interest margin expanded 3 basis points to 3.84%, helped by deposit costs that continued to fall. Looking at Trustmark's last eight quarters, the bank has beaten EPS estimates in every single one, with the spread ranging from a few cents to as much as nine cents — a pattern of consistent, if modest, outperformance that the Q2 2026 result extends.
