Viavi Solutions extended its run of earnings beats to eight consecutive quarters in Q1 2027, posting adjusted non-GAAP EPS of $0.47 against a consensus estimate of $0.41. Revenue of $469.3 million came in above the consensus estimate and rose 56.9% from a year earlier, a pace that reflects how substantially the company has grown since acquiring the Spirent network testing business.
Inside the quarter, the Network and Service Enablement segment grew revenue 74.1% year over year to $376.1 million. The segment's operating margin expanded to 25.5% from 8.2% a year ago, a widening tied in part to absorbing the Spirent high-speed ethernet and network security testing assets into a fuller cost structure. The smaller Optical Security and Performance Products segment also contributed, with revenue up 12.2% to $93.2 million and an operating margin of 43.2%.
On a GAAP basis, net income reached $76 million, reversing a net loss of $21.4 million in the year-ago period. Consolidated GAAP gross margin widened 470 basis points to 61.2%, and operating cash flow of $104.7 million rose sharply from a year earlier, giving the balance sheet meaningful flexibility heading into the next period.

Management guided Q2 revenue of $505 million to $515 million and non-GAAP EPS of $0.50 to $0.52, both figures sitting well above where consensus stood coming into the report. CEO Oleg Khaykin cited continued momentum in data center and aerospace and defense end markets as the primary growth drivers, calling fiscal 2027 off to a strong start with Q1 performance coming in above the high end of guidance.
Alongside the results, the board authorized a new $500 million share repurchase program, adding to an existing 2022 plan that still had approximately $18.4 million remaining. The combination of an accelerating margin profile, an upward guidance revision, and a sizable buyback authorization signals that management views the current share price as an opportunity, though risks including tariff exposure, integration challenges from the Spirent acquisition, and product mix swings between quarters are all flagged in the filing.
