Vicor posted Q3 2026 revenue of $197.1 million, beating expectations, with earnings per diluted share also beating expectations.

Royalty revenue more than tripled year over year to $66.6 million as AI OEMs and hyperscalers began paying for access to Vicor's power-delivery patent portfolio. That high-margin stream lifted gross margin to 68.3%.

Vicor granted its first VPD license to an AI OEM at Stage-2 unit royalty rates, and an active ITC patent enforcement investigation is drawing other unlicensed parties toward licensing talks. CEO Patrizio Vinciarelli said the ITC action is prompting inquiries from unlicensed OEMs and hyperscalers at rates structured to favor early adopters.

Backlog of $406 million is up 166% year over year, pointing to demand the current factory footprint cannot yet satisfy. Vicor is acquiring two manufacturing sites near its ChiP Fab-1 facility in Andover, Massachusetts, which management says will enable a nearly 5x capacity increase.

Capital expenditures rose sharply and contingency fees to IP enforcement law firms are climbing, so the expanding cost base is worth monitoring alongside the licensing momentum. Second-generation VPD technology, already demonstrated to OEMs and hyperscalers, is the next test of royalty conversion.
