VinFast Q2 2026: Deliveries Nearly Doubled but Margins Hit a New Low
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 19, 2026.
EV deliveries nearly doubled to 70,085 units, yet gross margin from continuing operations sank to negative 62.8% from negative 21.8% a year ago, missing expectations. A $1.18 billion gain on the disposal of Vietnam manufacturing assets masked the operating damage, roughly $2.30 billion in liquidity sits in facilities expiring by late 2026, and full-year guidance was left unchanged.

VinFast posted a Q2 2026 GAAP loss from continuing operations of $0.53 per share, missing the consensus estimate of $0.35. Deliveries rose 96% year over year, so the damage sits in margins, not volume demand.
Gross margin from continuing operations collapsed to negative 62.8% from negative 21.8% a year earlier. An extended free charging program was recorded as a deduction from revenue, and deferrals on certain vehicle sales cut recognized revenue further.
A $1.18 billion gain from the disposal of Vietnam manufacturing assets, recorded under discontinued operations, partially masked the damage at the net income line. That gain is a one-time item tied to a restructuring of the manufacturing footprint, so it says nothing about underlying profitability.
Liquidity is a pressing concern, with roughly $2.30 billion in facilities expiring by late 2026 while shareholders equity sits deeply negative and Vingroup support continues. VinFast maintained its full-year 2026 guidance despite the margin miss.
VinFast is leaning on a Level 4 robotaxi pilot, a U.S. commercial electric bus partnership, and launches of the VF Wild and the compact VF 2, which drew over 28,700 reservations within days. The gap between delivery volume and financial results remains the central challenge for investors.
