Vital Farms just pulled its fiscal 2030 targets entirely, and this year's guidance now points to an adjusted EBITDA loss instead of a profit. Egg oversupply is pushing volume into cheaper breaker and wholesale channels, and loss per share missed expectations.

Vital Farms posted a third-quarter loss of $0.15 per share, missing the consensus estimate, with revenue roughly in line with the forecast. The slim top-line beat does little against the broader deterioration in the business.

Gross margin fell to 23.1% from 37.7% a year earlier as an egg oversupply pushed volume into lower-priced breaker and wholesale channels. That channel shift drained gross profit and left adjusted EBITDA near break-even.

The company now expects an adjusted EBITDA loss of around $15 million for the year, having previously guided for a gain. Full-year revenue guidance was cut and the fiscal 2030 long-term targets were withdrawn entirely.

CEO Russell Diez-Canseco called Q2 the financial trough and pointed to sequential improvement in Q3, alongside record dollar and volume share of the shell egg category. Management expects Q4 to improve further on lower costs and recent distribution gains, assuming no seasonal uplift in demand or conventional egg pricing.

Total liabilities rose 92.9% year over year, with interest expense climbing after new term-loan borrowing and operating cash flow negative year to date. With the long-term roadmap off the table, investors must weigh whether the sequential recovery narrative holds without a structural target to anchor it.
