Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies posted adjusted EPS of $2.83 for Q3 2026, beating expectations and extending its streak of topping Wall Street's earnings estimates to four consecutive quarters. Revenue missed expectations, though the top line still grew from a year ago.
Adjusted operating margin expanded 1.9 percentage points to 22.9%, driven by sales leverage, a favorable product mix, contract escalation pricing, and the company's ongoing Integration 3.0 savings program. Gross profit, operating income and net income all rose year over year, signaling the revenue miss did not cut into the bottom line.
Digital Intelligence was the standout segment, with revenue surging 24.2% year over year on the back of acquisition activity and strong core demand. The company also repurchased $305 million of its own shares during the quarter, bringing total capital returned to shareholders through repurchases and dividends to $920 million year to date.
The $31.43 billion multi-year backlog gave management confidence to raise full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance while holding its full-year revenue outlook steady. Recent order wins, including a roughly $700 million locomotive service order for the Simandou mining project and North American locomotive orders, underscore why that backlog figure keeps growing.
CEO Rafael Santana described the quarter as evidence of "sales growth, margin expansion and a 22% increase in adjusted EPS," framing the results as a product of disciplined execution and strategic acquisitions. With five-year targets calling for mid-single-digit organic sales growth and double-digit adjusted EPS growth annually, the raised guidance suggests management believes that trajectory remains firmly intact.
