World Acceptance swung from a loss to a profit in Q2 2027, posting diluted EPS of $1.92 and beating expectations. A year earlier, the company had reported a loss per share in the same quarter, making the turnaround especially striking.
Credit quality drove the profit recovery, with the provision for credit losses falling to $46.0 million and delinquency rates improving across all categories. G&A expenses also dropped, with the G&A-to-revenue ratio tightening and adding further lift to the bottom line.
Revenue of $139.2 million rose year over year while missing expectations by roughly 1%, with interest and fee income supported by a portfolio mix shift toward higher-yielding smaller loans. The modest top-line shortfall was largely overshadowed by the magnitude of the earnings beat.
The company's customer base contracted over the trailing twelve months, with new customer loan volume down 18.1%, a direct consequence of deliberate underwriting tightening management implemented after macroeconomic concerns emerged. The company also repurchased 133,199 shares, or about 3% of shares outstanding, during the quarter.
Management has since loosened those underwriting standards and intends to carefully expand new customer lending in coming quarters, with advertising spending already up 36.7% in support of new customer acquisition. Net charge-offs and the debt-to-equity ratio both ticked higher, so the pace and quality of that loan book expansion will be the key variable to track as the growth push accelerates.
