The $12 billion that went into bond ETFs is masking the first active mutual fund outflow in months, and if redemptions accelerate those managers turn into forced sellers into a market already thin on liquidity.

Active bond mutual funds saw outflows for first time in a while in week ending 9/18 (so this doesn't count last week i'm sure its equal or worse). In 2022, people were optimistic that we could head off the problems that have become a full blown catastrophe. The fed set the rates high in 2022. In 2026, the government has lost enough trust that it has trouble selling its bonds.

This bond rout is a credibility story, which is why a 4% yield cushion is not calming anyone. If buyers are demanding more to hold Treasuries, every long-duration asset you own reprices with them.

Everyone is saying this is a bad idea, and I get it, but I was in the exact same situation and we did open a joint account. Like you said, the worst that can happen is that they run off with a couple months worth. Worked just fine in my situation and we’re married now.

Keep only a month or two of bills in the joint account and fund it with a percentage of each paycheck, which caps the downside. Commenters flag the real snag, which shows up later when a lender asks a former partner to sign off on a mortgage.
