Musk recruits chip engineers for SpaceX and Tesla to hit 10 designs a year
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 11, 2026.
Musk is poaching silicon talent to chase 10 chip designs a year through Terafab, versus the industry norm of one every two years, a direct shot at the merchant chip suppliers Tesla and SpaceX currently buy from.
If you’re a world-class chip design or production engineer, consider joining SpaceX or Tesla. How cool would it be to iterate on designs and customize production machines at lightning speed? https://t.co/H9v1lHQwKV [Quoted @pequityresearch]: Elon Musk wants to do 10 chip designs a year with Terafab compared to 1 every 2 years: "The advancement of any given technology is how many iterations, and how much progress per iteration. How many chip designs can you do, make and test in a year? These days it's typically 2 https://t.co/FWvnYTckfw

Elon Musk posted a direct pitch to world-class chip design and production engineers on October 11, inviting them to join SpaceX or Tesla and work on what he framed as a fundamentally faster way to build silicon.
Musk quoted research highlighting his ambition to complete 10 chip designs a year through Terafab, against an industry norm of roughly one every two years.
SpaceX and Tesla are positioning to reduce or eliminate their dependence on outside chip suppliers by collapsing the design and manufacturing timeline in-house. That is a direct competitive pressure on the merchant chip vendors those companies currently buy from.
The post drew more than 490,000 impressions as of its posting time, suggesting the talent call landed well beyond the chip engineering community and put the Terafab ambition squarely in front of investors watching both companies.
