US semiconductor producer prices up 26% YoY on six straight months of pressure

As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 24, 2026.

Six straight months of 25%-plus chip producer inflation means every AI data center budget written last year is already stale, and chipmakers with pricing power pocket the difference.

Semiconductor prices are skyrocketing in the US: Producer prices for semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing surged +26% YoY in September, their 4th-largest increase on record. This also marks their 6th consecutive YoY increase of at least +25%. Since July https://t.co/C3Kc6BbUtm

Producer prices for semiconductor and other electronic component manufacturing rose 26% year over year in September, extending a streak of six consecutive months of large annual gains.

The streak signals that chip inflation has become a sustained condition. Any technology budget or AI infrastructure plan built on last year's component costs is already understating expenses by a meaningful margin.

For chipmakers with genuine pricing power, persistent producer-price inflation translates directly into wider margins as long as end demand holds. For buyers, from hyperscalers building out data centers to consumer electronics assemblers, the pressure flows through to gross margins and will surface in upcoming earnings reports.

The figure to watch is whether September's 26% reading holds or accelerates in the next data release. Six consecutive months above 25% is already an unusual run, and a seventh would push this streak further into record territory while raising the odds that downstream hardware and infrastructure cost estimates get revised upward again.
