Zebra Technologies reported Q3 2026 revenue of $1.61 billion, beating expectations and rising 22.3% year over year. The market's attention has already shifted to what is being given back on the margin line.

Gross margin contracted 230 basis points to 45.7%, with management attributing the decline to higher memory component costs and business mix. That compression is significant enough to overshadow the revenue and earnings beat for investors focused on the quality of earnings.

The growth engine driving revenue was the Connected Frontline segment, which expanded 34.6% to $949 million. The Elo Touch acquisition accounted for part of that, leaving organic net sales still higher.

Despite the margin headwind, management raised its full-year free cash flow outlook to at least $1 billion, citing durable demand for frontline automation. Fourth-quarter guidance points to a higher adjusted EBITDA margin than the 21.6% posted in Q3.

Cash stood at $182 million at quarter-end, down 82.7% year over year, while a substantial portion of total debt is classified as current. Whether Zebra resolves memory cost pressures while sustaining automation demand shapes the stock's next leg.
