About Erie Indemnity

Erie Indemnity Company (NASDAQ: ERIE) is the managing attorney-in-fact for the subscribers at the Erie Insurance Exchange, a reciprocal property/casualty insurer. Indemnity earns most of its revenue from a management fee, calculated on the Exchange's direct and affiliated assumed written premium, for providing policy issuance and renewal services such as sales, underwriting, and policy processing. It also earns management fees for administrative services, receives reimbursement revenue for administrative costs it incurs on the Exchange's behalf (a pass-through offset by equal costs), and collects service agreement revenue. Major cost drivers include commissions and agent incentive compensation paid to the independent agency system, plus technology, personnel, and underwriting support costs. Indemnity also holds an investment portfolio of available-for-sale and equity securities. The broader Erie Insurance Group was founded in 1925 and is rated A (Excellent) by AM Best. Based on AM Best direct premiums written data, it ranks as the 10th largest homeowners insurer, 11th largest automobile insurer, and 9th largest commercial lines insurer in the U.S. It is the 16th largest U.S. property/casualty insurer by net premiums written, with nearly seven million policies in force across 12 states and the District of Columbia.
