About Coherent

Coherent Corp. (NYSE: COHR) is a photonics company that designs and manufactures optical components, transceivers, lasers, precision optics and engineered materials. It reports two segments.

Datacenter & Communications made up 82% of revenue this quarter. Its products include optical transceivers and connectivity for AI datacenters, scale-across/datacenter interconnect (DCI) solutions, and Pluggable Optical Line Systems for 800G ZR/ZR+. It also offers PhotonLink, an integrated optics platform for co-packaged optics (CPO), near-packaged optics (NPO) and chip-to-chip connectivity.

Industrial supplies lasers, precision optics and engineered materials. End markets include semiconductor capital equipment, AI server circuit-board drilling (CO₂ lasers and zinc selenide optics), thermal management (Thermadite xPU cooling and 300mm silicon carbide substrates), fusion and quantum technology.

The company is vertically integrated, from materials and crystal growth through optics and lasers, including internal indium phosphide production capacity. Founded in 1971, it operates in more than 20 countries. It has divested its Aerospace & Defense business and its Munich, Germany business to focus on AI datacenter and growth markets. Updated

AI datacenters switching from copper to optical now drive 82% of Coherent's sales, and management guided fiscal 2027 pro forma revenue growth above 60% with its first $3 billion quarter expected by year-end. Both lines beat expectations.

Quarterly EPS — reported vs estimate
As AI datacenters transition from copper to optical connectivity, Coherent's broad photonics platform and manufacturing scale position us to help customers meet rising needs for bandwidth and energy efficiency. We expect fiscal 2027 pro forma revenue growth to exceed 60%.

CEO Jim Anderson just put hard math behind the copper-to-optical shift in AI datacenters, guiding fiscal 2027 pro forma revenue growth past 60% on the first-quarter earnings call. That is a rare growth commitment from a $38 billion photonics supplier, and it raises the bar for every optical networking rival chasing the same buildout.

Q1 marked a strong start to fiscal 2027, with pro forma revenue up 56% year over year and non-GAAP EPS up 80%. Our established businesses delivered strong growth, while new growth areas are beginning to ramp.

Earnings are growing faster than sales at Coherent, a sign the AI datacenter optics boom is landing in margins and not just order books. Anderson says the newer product lines are only starting to contribute, so fiscal 2027 guidance is the number to track from here.

Our vertical integration—from materials and crystal growth through optics and lasers—helps us manage quality, cost, and supply in a capacity-constrained market.

Anderson is pitching owning the whole stack, from crystal growth to finished lasers, as the hedge against photonics shortages squeezing rivals, with indium phosphide export controls and SiC price wars hitting suppliers who buy rather than build. For a $38 billion optics maker levered to AI datacenter buildouts, supply control is the margin story on this earnings call.

With the breadth of our photonic technology portfolio and our manufacturing scale, we believe Coherent is uniquely well positioned to capitalize on this multi-year growth opportunity.

Anderson is staking Coherent's fiscal 2027 opening quarter on AI data center optics, the same demand wave that just drove Marvell to buy Lumentum and left GlobalFoundries sold out of 2027 capacity. Manufacturing scale is the differentiator he is selling, and the $38 billion market cap says investors are pricing in multi-year follow-through.
