DRDGOLD Limited is a JSE- and NYSE-listed South African gold producer that specializes in large-scale surface tailings retreatment. Established in 1895, the company has evolved from a conventional underground miner into a fully mechanized operator focused on reclaiming historic mine residue deposits across the Witwatersrand basin near Johannesburg. DRDGOLD operates two long-life assets: Ergo on the East Rand and Far West Gold Recoveries (FWGR) in the Carletonville area, which together process approximately 2.1 million tonnes of tailings per month and produce around 155,000 ounces of gold per year from a resource base of 6.6 million ounces. The company uses high-pressure hydro-mechanical mining to dislodge material from legacy tailings dumps, transports it via pipeline to central carbon-in-leach processing plants, and redeposits processed waste onto engineered tailings storage facilities. DRDGOLD carries no debt, is fully unhedged against gold price movements, and generates approximately 46% of Ergo's electricity from its own 60MW solar PV plant and battery energy storage system. The company is majority-owned (50.1%) by Sibanye Gold Proprietary Limited, a subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater Limited, with 20.1% held through JPMorgan Chase Bank by ADR holders and 29.7% by other public shareholders. DRDGOLD employs approximately 868 people directly and supports over 3,400 through its supply chain. Its Vision 2028 capital programme aims to increase throughput to 3 million tonnes per month and annual production to approximately 200,000 ounces, extending operational life beyond 20 years at both sites. The company's business model integrates gold recovery with concurrent land rehabilitation, progressively removing legacy environmental liabilities and restoring land for future productive use.
