GATX Corporation delivered a notably strong second quarter for fiscal 2026, with earnings per share of $2.84 beating the $2.46 consensus estimate by 15.49%, even as revenue of $580.10 million came in 3.12% below expectations despite surging 34.8% yea… Read more GATX Corporation delivered a notably strong second quarter for fiscal 2026, with earnings per share of $2.84 beating the $2.46 consensus estimate by 15.49%, even as revenue of $580.10 million came in 3.12% below expectations despite surging 34.8% year over year from $430.50 million. The primary engine behind that revenue leap was the transformative Wells Fargo Rail fleet acquisition, which expanded GATX's North American railcar portfolio to approximately 201,800 cars and drove net income to $103.40 million, up sharply from $75.50 million in the year-ago quarter. Adding further momentum, the Engine Leasing segment more than doubled its profit to $66.40 million, reflecting robust performance at the RRPF affiliates. Institutional sentiment has remained broadly constructive on the stock, consistent with analyst buy ratings that have trailed the company's operating execution. On the strength of these results and continued favorable North American rail supply-demand dynamics, GATX raised its full-year 2026 earnings guidance to $9.90 to $10.30 per diluted share, signaling confidence in sustained performance through year-end.

GATX Forward Guidance & Outlook

The company believes it is well-positioned to continue generating attractive growth and returns for shareholders through disciplined investment in core markets.

“GATX delivered strong second-quarter results. At Rail North America, fleet demand remained stable for most car types. Utilization of the combined fleet remained high at 98.0% at quarter end, while the renewal lease rate change of GATX's Lease Price Index was 16.8% with an average renewal term of 54 months. Also, our second-quarter renewal success rate was strong at 82.6%. Our team has done an outstanding job integrating the Wells Fargo Rail fleet, and we are seeing incremental benefits related to the acquisition, both commercially and operationally. We did experience an abnormally high volume of railcar renewals in sand service during the quarter, including some carried over from the period immediately following the acquisition, which placed pressure on second-quarter LPI. Demand for railcars in the secondary market was very strong, as we continue to see robust interest in GATX assets from a broad and deep buyer universe. We generated $67.7 million of gains on asset dispositions in the quarter, bringing our year-to-date total to $117.5 million.”
