Huge 8.6 Magnitude Quake Hits Indonesia, Tsunami Warnings

A huge 8.6 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Indonesia at April 11, 2012 at 08:38:37 UTC.

The epicenter was 269 miles SW of Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia

The Tsunami Warning Center issued the following report

A strong earthquake has occurred, but a tsunami IS NOT expected along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, or Alaska coast. NO tsunami warning, watch or advisory is in effect for these areas.
A MAJOR AFTERSHOCK FROM THE EARLIER MAGNITUDE 8.7 EARTHQUAKE HAS OCCURRED. THE PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER WATCH FOR THE INDIAN OCEAN IS STILL IN EFFECT. NO ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR THE STATES AND PROVINCES LISTED ABOVE. Based on the location of the event being outside the Pacific Basin, the earthquake was not sufficient to generate a tsunami damaging to California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska coasts.
