TransCanada Submits Keystone XL Route Changes

Canadian pipeline company TransCanada Corp. (NYSE: TRP) today submitted a revised Supplemental Environmental Report to the state of Nebraska related to the company’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline project. Today’s submission offers TransCanada’s proposed re-routing of portions of the pipeline to avoid the state’s Sandhills.

The plan revealed today takes into account route changes that TransCanada suggested in April and incorporates the comments made to those proposed changes. The company made three significant changes to the proposed pipeline route: one to avoid a portion of the Sandhills, another to avoid an area of shallow groundwater that supplies the town of Clarks, and a third to avoid another sensitive area.

TransCanada also submitted this report to the federal government for review. Because the Keystone XL pipeline crosses the international border between Canada and the U.S. the project requires presidential approval. TransCanada, with encouragement from the Obama administration, has already begun work on the southern end of the Keystone XL pipeline, running from Cushing, Oklahoma, to the Texas Gulf Coast.

TransCanada’s filing is available here.
