NASDAQ Sees Drop In Short Selling (NDAQ)

Money_stack_pic_3The NASDAQ OMX Group (NASDAQ: NDAQ) is seeing a drop in short selling activity if the trends in December continue.  The exchange said that as of December 31, the total short interest in 2,559 NASDAQ Global Market securities totaled 6,757,422,121 shares.

This is down from 7,121,547,015 shares in 2,561 Global Market issues reported for the settlement date of December 15.

What is interesting is that this is an increase in the ratio of shortshares to average daily volume.  The latest short interest represented3.62 days average daily share volume, up from the 3.43 days as ofDecember 15.

With the tapering off of volume, it won’t be shocking at all if we seesome of the similar trends at the next report in two weeks.
