The new .xxx internet designation, meant to take sex and porn domains out of the .com listing, have become available to websites.
The BBC reports
Some 100,000 addresses have already been purchased in a restricted sale. The first pages went live in September.
Some large porno sites object to the plan because .com domains are considers more legitimate. .xxx is a recent developement and stand beside other designation which include .net, .org., and .gov.
It is too early to predict how soon .xxx will be adopted, or if it will only be adopted by smaller porn sites.
The BBC adds
The decision ended a decade-long battle for the move by ICM Registry which was awarded the right to administrate the new domain. It put .xxx on a par with more conventional web addresses such as .com and .org.
