Wikileaks Opens New Domains After Shutdown

As you are probably aware, Wikileaks has had its website closed down in the U.S.  Amazon closed the .org and .com sites after DNS attacks  and after requests for it to stop hosting the site.  It is possible that Amazon also wanted to get away from association with the site.  What started out as a candid open-secret project ended up divulging government secrets, corporate secrets, secret diplomatic communications, secret war footage, war documents, and much more is under fire.

Its founder Julian Assange has been accused of sexual misconduct and faces charges in Sweden, Interpol has a warrant for him him, and how many governments want him arrested or worse is probably too many top count.  Leaking embassy communications, Afghanistan and Iraq secrets and videos, and other non-public data has come with a price.

Now the organization is opening new wikileaks domains in other countries so it can get back on the internet.  It does have sites open currently under the wikileaks domain name with the .nl, .fi, and .de addresses.  The ‘.nl’ domain reads .nl while the “.fi’ and ‘.de’ sites were just showing IP addresses in the domain name on the browser.

We were told a ‘.ch’ domain for Switzerland was already shut down.  Whether or not the other domains will be able to stay open is something that is not known.  Its Facebook tab at 2:20 EST showed that some “544,315 people like Wikileaks.”
