The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) may be about to close its military aircraft manufacturing plant in Wichita, Kansas, as a result of proposed cuts to the US defense budget. About 2,000 employees would be affected.

A report from Bloomberg News cites an unnamed source who said the company will move manufacturing of its new Air Force aerial refueling tanker to the Washington state plant where the company builds wide-body planes.

The company has called a meeting of all Wichita employees for 10:30 a.m. Central time but has not divulged the subject of the meeting. Boeing once expected the plant to employ 7,500 people following its win on the new Air Force tanker.
