About 98,000 federal, postal, and congressional staff employees did not pay taxes in 2010 and owe the US Internal Revenue Service $1.03 billion in taxes. Civilian retirees did not pay about $500 million in taxes that year either.

Among military personnel, more than 83,000 retirees owe about $1.5 billion and nearly 30,000 active duty personnel owe about $111 million in taxes.

Legislation has been introduced in both the US House and Senate that would force government agencies to fire employees who do not pay their taxes.

The Washington Post has a list of the agencies and delinquencies here.
