Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) CEO Michael Dell told Bloomberg News that the company is doing well in the global PC market. The company’s sales grew by 7.8% in the fourth calendar quarter of 2011 according Gartner, and Michael Dell thinks that the growth is sustainable:

Certainly there are plenty of challenges in Europe and the U.S. to work through, but to stay competitive businesses and industries need to have the latest tools. I feel very good about our strategy to continue to grow earnings even in a somewhat challenging environment.

PC sales have been hit by disk drive shortages due to floods in Thailand, and a surge in purchases of tablets and other mobile devices.
